How to Get Faster 3d Prints

How to Get Faster 3d Prints

No one wants to sit staring at their 3D printer, waiting for it to finish. Sometimes it seems like it takes forever to print something. Are you able to increase the printing speed to get product out faster? Well, as a matter of fact you can! There are multiple ways to up your 3D printing speed without jeopardizing the quality of your final product.

5 Ways to Increase Your Printing Speed

Customize your default printing speed

The most common way to increase your 3D printing speed is to directly adjust the print speed in the settings of your slicing software. During the dddrop EVO Twin’s development, the print head speed was a critical starting point. The focus on this print speed resulted in perfect acceleration and deceleration of the print head, which assures that your final products come out quickly and cleanly.

The overall print speed can be increased significantly without doing any damage to the quality of your 3D model, even ones with sharp corners. If you have a straightforward product, you can increase your print speed even more.

Reduce your infill

Infill is the repetitive structure that is used to take up space inside an otherwise empty 3D structure. Reducing your infill can help increase your printing speed, but ensure that you still have a sound ratio between the wall thickness and the infill. This will help prevent your 3D models from collapsing. Models with a lower infill density and small wall thickness are more vulnerable to collapse or damage; therefore, we recommend using this technique with products where strength is not a key factor.

Use a larger nozzle and larger layer height

Printing with a larger layer height will help to reduce your print time. If accuracy is not a concern for you, try printing with a larger nozzle and maximum layer height. This maximum layer height is 75% of the nozzle diameter. This means, for example, that with a 0.8 mm nozzle you can build layers with a height of 0.6 mm.

Are you looking to really up your printing speed so that you can complete multiple products in one go? The key to this is printing multiple products in the same batch, though this is only possible if the print bed is large enough for multiple items. To do this, use the function center and arrange in your slicing software.

Producing multiple products in the same batch is more convenient for you and it saves time. You also do not have to reset your printer as often. Keep in mind that you have to use the same filaments for the products as to not create any heat problems.

Use your material for multiple purposes

Do you like to print in multiple materials? Some printers, like the dddrop EVO Twin have two independent print heads. This means that the printer can print multi-color and multi-material. For example, you could print a model of PLA and use soluble support material. However, the printer does have to switch between the two materials, which can take a lot of time.

A quick solution to increate your printing speed is to use one material for both purposes. For example, you would use the PLA material as both your main material as well as your support material. The PLA support material will be printed with a lower infill density, so after it is easier to remove. This way the printer does not have to take the time to switch between the two materials.

If you are wanting to up your 3D printing speed, these steps are a great place to start. They not only will help you produce products faster, but they will not jeopardize the quality of your products.
